The following section provides information that will assist you in placing a telephone order.
- An analog line is the most commonly used service for providing telephone connectivity between employees, departments, and off-campus businesses. An analog line is used to service equipment such as simple desk and wall sets, answering machines, fax machines, and alarm circuits.
- A digital line is used to provide service for multi-line ISDN sets. These digital phone sets allow the UITS Telephone Switch to provide department telephones with a variety of features that assist in making business transactions more efficient.
- A VoIP line (Voice over Internet Protocol) is used to provide service for VoIP phone sets on campus. These VoIP sets have features in addition to those of the Digital ISDN sets; however they are only available in locations with VoIP service.
- Off-campus Telephone services are available to those University of Arizona departments which are located off campus.
Questions to Ask
Is a telephone jack in place and available?
If not, email UITSfirstname.lastname@example.org or call (520) 621-8999, and request an estimate to have a phone jack installed. You will be asked for the building and room number for the new jack. You will also need to describe where within the room the jack should be placed and provide a rudimentary floor plan of the location. Example: northwest wall, beside desk, on left. The floor plan showing the desired location of the new jack(s) can be emailed to UITSemail@example.com or faxed to (520) 621-4188.
Do you know what style of telephone you need?
Telecommunications Services provides several models of analog, digital and VoIP telephones with various features and costs. For analog lines only, departments can choose to purchase their own telephone equipment through UA Procurement and Contracting Services (PACS) or an outside vendor (UITS cannot recommend a vendor for you).
Do you know what style of telephone headset you need?
Several models of headsets will work with analog, digital, and VoIP telephones. Departments can purchase their own telephone headsets through UA Procurement and Contracting Services (PACS) or outside vendors. Please be sure to check compatibility with your phone model.
Do you know what type of long distance restriction you need on your telephone?
Telephone lines can be restricted depending on your department's needs. If your telephone is in a public area, you may want to restrict the access to Tucson only. Unrestricted access may be appropriate in more secure locations. Several Restriction Levels are available.
Do you know the KFS account number(s) you wish to use?
KFS account numbers are required to order service. You may use different account numbers for different telephone lines or different numbers for installation, monthly recurring, or toll charges. Federal grant account numbers (3000000 - 4199990) can be used for toll charges; they CANNOT be used for installation or monthly recurring charges.
Do you need Voice Mail?
Telecommunications Services can add Voice Mail to your new or existing campus telephone line.
