November 2, 2009, University Information Technology Services implemented CatMail, powered by Google Apps for Education, for all UA students. In addition to student email, students have access to Google's full suite of apps from any computer or mobile device. These include Mail, Google Calendar, Google Talk (chat), Google Docs (word processing, spreadsheets, presentations), Google Sites, Labs, and Google Video.
Faculty and staff are also able to opt in to CatMail to gain access to Google Apps, but will not have email delivery in CatMail.
Visit the CatMail page for more information on opting in to CatMail and Google Apps.
February 2, 2011, UITS is implementing an upgrade to the Google Apps available in CatMail. Account holders will need to click an acceptance screen for the changes the first time they log in, and then will be able to use CatMail as normal. The additional apps will be available under more > Even more.
The Google Apps within CatMail do not include Google Groups. if you try to access Groups, Google will tell you it is not available. Google Groups is available to all UA NetID holders, whether they are CatMail account holders or not, as CatGroups. More information is available on the CatGroups service page.
