There are three main types of email servers: POP, IMAP and SMTP. (You don’t need to understand the details about these server types; you just need to find out which one your email service uses for incoming mail.)
POP/IMAP General Settings
These instructions and general settings are used to retrieve campus email via a mail client application, such as Outlook, Thunderbird, or Mac Mail. Choose the set of instructions that apply to the type of account you have.
NOTE: The settings for outgoing mail (SMTP) on POP or IMAP applications will need to be changed by 01/27/2014 to SMTP port 587 or 25 and connection security to STARTTLS or TLS. Email will not send after 01/27/2014 from port 465. If you like, you may use port 25 and STARTTLS or TLS now, and beginning 12/09/2013, you may set the SMTP port to 587 with connection security STARTTLS or TLS. The PDFs of instructions below will be updated to indicate you should use port 587 or 25 with STARTTLS or TLS on 12/09/2013. Please be aware that some internet service providers block port 25.
To change your SMTP settings, use the instructions below, but do not "Add Account"; instead choose your existing email.arizona.edu account and edit the settings.
