The University of Arizona plans to dramatically increase graduation and freshman retention rates over the next five years and technology will play a pivotal role. That was just part of the message delivered by UA President, Dr. Robert Shelton, in his presentation of UA’s five-year business plan to the Arizona Board of Regents during their meeting on campus this month.

University Information Technology Services (UITS) Associate Director of Client Services Kate Rehkopf was part of a team from UA who presented about the role of technology in student retention last month at a national conference in Baltimore, Maryland.

When researchers across The University of Arizona campus need to display complex data in a dramatic visual format, UITS Scientific Visualization Consultant, Marvin Landis, gets the call.  Working in Research Computing’s AZ-LIVE (Arizona Laboratory for Immersive Visualization Environments) lab, Marvin creates a virtual reality three-dimension world so life-like that visitors may actually forget they are in a computer lab.

UITS SecOps has updated the security certificate for the campus VPN (virtual private network). Members of the campus community who are using VPN via to connect to the University network from off-campus may get a message instructing them to install a new certificate.
