August 2008
Dear Campus Community,
It is with great pleasure that I announce the new structure and leadership team for the CIO Office and the University Information Technology Services (UITS) organization. At a glance, the following positions and individuals represent the leadership roles:
Cathy Bates is from the FSO IT organization bringing extensive experience in administrative applications support. She also brings recent experiences from other higher education institutions. As Senior Director, her fresh perspective will be focused on providing leadership for the Enterprise Applications group. This will become a very visible group as we proceed with the replacement of our systems.
Hank Childers is from the Human Resources IT department, and comes with many years of experience in project management and systems implementation. His particular focus will be on the MOSAIC Project. Hank has been very active and key in the successful planning and proposal part of this project to-date.
Limell’ Lawson is already well known in her prior role as Director of the Office of Student Computing Resources (OSCR) group. As Senior Director, her success with OSCR and with prior knowledge in building new programs will be foundational as she orchestrates the development of our Frontline Services organization, which consists of all customer-facing groups. This will allow for the creation of a well-rounded and comprehensive support interface for all members of our campus community.
Derek Masseth was already part of UITS with involvement in the support of the University’s server systems and background computing services. As Senior Director, his new focus will be to integrate our computing and network support services within the Infrastructure Services organization. The concepts of Unified Communications and Security are forcing more interaction between network management, email, and systems management. These groups will be better positioned to plan for the future and create integrated solutions together.
Liz Taylor is joining my office as Deputy CIO. Liz has served in many capacities related to technology across campus. Most recently she served as the Director of the IT Organization in the Financial Services Office. As Deputy CIO, she will be responsible for managing the IT Strategic Plan and the Project Management Office. She will also provide more hands-on leadership for both UITS and campus-wide IT initiatives as needed and assist the CIO in executing our strategic plans.
Sylvia Johnson has been our new University Information Security Officer since October 2007 and will continue in that role reporting directly to the CIO. Security continues to be an institutional priority. Sylvia has already made great progress in expanding the role of the security office and in working with the campus to resolve security issues. Please join me in congratulating these folks in their new roles.
Thank you.
