Initial Setup for W6 Sites

Note: The site owner/administrator is responsible for the content, maintenance, and security of your site on W6. UITS reserves the right to disable public access to sites if they become compromised or defaced. 
Step 1: Set Up Supporting Software 
You will need to login to cPanel once in order to set up your permanent password. This password will be used for the VPN client and WinSCP. You can find instructions for doing that here
VPN Client 
If you will be working from off-campus, you will need to set up a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to securely connect to the UA network. You can find instructions for doing that here
SCP Client 
You will need to set up Secure Copy (SCP) or Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) client to transfer files to your website. WinSCP is offered for free from the UA Software License website. Mac users can install Cyberduck instead of WinSCP. Instructions for installation and set up can be found here

Although you are free to create your site using any tool that is supported by the W6 hosting environment, a common Content Management System used on campus is Drupal 7. You can find detailed instructions for installing Drupal 7 here.
